WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan may not be back in action in 2014, but it's possible if he undergoes a second surgery soon that he can return to the ring by early 2015.

Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Bryan can make his return at the 2015 Royal Rumble in January if he undergoes a second surgery in the next couple of weeks after his first neck surgery led to some lingering side effects.

The report also indicates that the WWE didn't find out about Bryan requiring another surgery until he and his wife Brie Bella had a press conference about Bryan recently stopping a burglar at their home.

Bryan underwent neck surgery in mid-May to repair a neck injury that he accumulated over time due to years of putting wear-and-tear on his body from his in-ring style. It has been said that when Bryan returns to action, he will tone down his style and change the way he wrestles in order to prevent further injuries.

Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX on April 6 in New Orleans by defeating Triple H in the opening match and going on to beat Randy Orton and Batista in the main event to leave the biggest show of the year with the gold.

Just over a month later, it was revealed that Bryan would need a minor procedure to fix his damaged neck, but he hasn't returned to action since. Bryan defeated Kane at Extreme Rules in defense of the title in his only pay-per-view match since winning the gold.

He then made an appearance at Payback on June 1 when Stephanie McMahon asked him to forfeit the title, but Bella quit instead. The WWE then found out Bryan would miss significant time and decided to take the belt off of him.

The title was won by John Cena at Money in the Bank on June 29 in an eight-man Ladder Match and now Cena will go on to face Brock Lesnar in the main event of SummerSlam on Aug. 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There were early rumors that Bryan would face Lesnar, but that had to be changed with Bryan's injury.

After his neck surgery, Bryan's body hasn't responded as well as it should, and he will have to undergo another operation as he hasn't regained full feeling in his arms.

While Bryan won't compete at SummerSlam, Bella will face McMahon at the event after being "reinstated," and there's no telling if Bryan will appear at the event.

Bryan's timetable is still up in the air, but a return at the Royal Rumble in January 2015 is the likely scenario for his return to the squared circle.
