It's difficult to determine what the holdup is in contract negotiations between Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers.

Colin Kaepernick taking the Tim Duncan approach in signing his new contract

CSNBayArea.com reported Thursday that the organization and its head coach have agreed to suspend contract extension talks until after the 2014 season.

"We actually just had this conversation yesterday," 49ers CEO Jed York told CSNBayArea.com. "Lots of people were talking to him about it. We just said, 'You know what, let's not do anything during the season. Let's sit down a week or so after the season is over and let everybody know we're not focused on anything that's off the field right now.'

"Jim and I will sit down a week or so after the season is over and we'll figure out where we go."

Colin Kaepernick refutes Jim Harbaugh's claims that Kaepernick is ready for a breakout year

According to NFL.com, Harbaugh also sounds as if no problem exists between the franchise and him.

"I signed my 10th contract in the National Football League in 2011, so I understand contracts. I understand how contracts work, and what they are there for," Harbaugh said. "I also know that I work at the pleasure of the San Francisco 49ers organization and at the pleasure of the York family. And I am paid extremely well -- which I am most grateful for, and I am very proud to be part of this organization."

And when York was asked whether he was worried that Harbaugh's price would increase if he were to lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2015, he said hoped that happens.

"Well, Jim's here for the next two years under contract," York said. "And like I've said publicly and very loudly in the past, I hope he has the utmost leverage when we sit down and talk about his contract at the end of the season.

"It's a good thing. It's an unbelievable problem to have."

But it's still a problem. York has yet to say something to the effect that he hopes Harbaugh remains the coach of the 49ers for years to come. Harbaugh has not said he hopes to remain coach of the 49ers for years to come.

The absence of those sentiments could make for interesting after-the-season talks between the sides.
