MLB Trade Rumors: Mets To Deal Bartolo Colon To Orioles? [VIDEO]

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said the team is likely to stay quiet as the MLB non-waiver trade deadline approaches at 4 p.m., but the Baltimore Orioles have made it difficult for them by expressing interest in Bartolo Colon.

CBS Sports reports that the Orioles have inquired about Colon, but the Mets aren't sure whether or not they will pull the trigger on a deal.

The Orioles join the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners as teams that have engaged the Mets over Colon, 41, but New York has yet to decide whether or not to deal him.

Colon had a rough patch earlier this year, but has been mostly solid in the Mets rotation, posting a 10-8 record up to this point along with a 3.88 ERA, 1.165 WHIP and 106 strikeouts.

Many teams have been hesitant to deal for Colon due to the fact that he is owed $11 million next year, but the right-hander has put up solid numbers despite his age over the last few years, which could make the risk of dealing for him worth it.

There is no information on who the Orioles would potentially offer the Mets in a deal, though Colon is likely expendable to New York. The Mets have Matt Harvey set to return from Tommy John surgery in 2015 and he will join young starters Zack Wheeler and Jacob deGrom in the Mets' blossoming rotation.

The Mets (52-56) also have a lot of solid pitching in Triple-A, in a group that is led by Noah Syndergaard, who is struggling this season in Las Vegas but is still seen as an elite pitching prospect.

New York sits in fourth place in the National League East, 7.5 games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals and six games out of a wild-card spot, so they could very well deal Colon to gear up for next season.

Baltimore, meanwhile, could add Colon to a rotation that is anchored by Chris Tillman and Wei-Yin Chen as the team looks to create distance from the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees atop the American League East.

Entering deadline day, the Orioles (60-45) hold a 2.5 game lead on the Blue Jays in the AL East.

It's unknown if the Mets will pull the trigger on a Colon deal, but the Orioles enter a list of teams that have shown interest.
