Steve "Sting" Borden has started to make appearances on behalf of the WWE, but he has yet to sign a talent contract. The sides are hopeful that something will get done between the two of them by SummerSlam.

Jeff Hardy Discusses Possible WWE Return And TNA's Negotiations With Spike TV

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, both sides are hopeful to get a deal done by the SummerSlam spectacular on Aug. 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Sting will be in Los Angeles for SummerSlam weekend, but he is currently not scheduled for the show itself.

Sting has been revealed as a playable character for those who pre-order the WWE 2K15 video game, has had action figures made of him and the company has released merchandise, but there is still no deal in place.

Brie Bella Discusses SummerSlam Match With Stephanie McMahon

This is because Sting has a deal with 2K Sports for the video game, Mattel for the action figure and the WWE bought out WCW in 2001 and has the rights to sell Sting's merchandise without a deal in place. Sting's Comic Con appearance was on behalf of Mattel.

It has been a long ongoing struggle for the WWE and Sting to reach an agreement as fans and wrestlers have heard of Sting potentially joining the WWE in January and the two sides are still stuck in the same place they were when word originally dropped that the two would strike a deal.

Sting has had plenty of talks with WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon over the years, but has reportedly never met him in person. The two will likely have their first in-person meeting during SummerSlam weekend.

McMahon has tried signing Sting several times over the years, but the WCW and TNA icon remains as the one main event talent from WCW that has never crossed over to the WWE for whatever reason. Sting has said in interviews he regrets not doing it sooner and that he really wants to have one more match, so it's seemingly a matter of time before he enters a WWE ring.

It seemed as though Sting would face The Undertaker at April's WrestleMania XXX, but reports surfaced that the WWE saw signing Sting as a "low priority" and dragged its feet in negotiations.

The WWE opted to have Brock Lesnar face the Undertaker and subsequently beat him to end The Streak while 'Taker got injured and his status going forward is up in the air.

There were reports after WrestleMania that the WWE mailed Sting a physical contract to sign, but for whatever reason he was stalling.

Sting has said he wants to face The Undertaker -- possibly at WrestleMania 31 -- in what would be the final match for both of them, but it's unknown if 'Taker will return.

There have been rumors that Sting will wrestle one final match and his first for the WWE at WrestleMania 31 and that a possible Hall of Fame induction will happen, but nothing has officially been signed yet.

While both sides are getting along and Sting is happy to be a part of the WWE family, until he officially signs a talent contract it is impossible for Sting to wrestle a match in the WWE.
