Boston Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester will not make his scheduled start tonight because he is being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers

Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Red Sox have held back the pitcher who has been in the Red Sox's World Series victories in 2007 and 2013. He closed out the '07 series with a Game 4 win that capped Boston's sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
He won Game 1 and Game 5 last season against the St. Louis Cardinals to help the Red Sox capture another championship.

The Red Sox are recalling pitcher Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill in for Lester for tonight's start.
"In light of all the uncertainty surrounding Jon Lester, it's probably in everyone's best interest that he does not make that start," Farrell said, according to Boston.com. "So Brandon will be recalled; there will be a corresponding move, roster wise, at some point (today)."
Boston.com reported that as many as eight teams have inquired about obtaining Lester, who is 10-7 this year with a 2.52 earned-run average.
During his entire Red Sox career that began in 2006, Lester has compiled a 110-63 record with an ERA of 3.64.

The Boston Globe reported that the Red Sox have become enamored with the idea of becoming as good as they can be in as short a time as possible.
Manager John Farrell was asked how he considered the Red Sox to be a better team without their staff ace.
"Well, he's not traded yet," Farrell said. "If he is traded, that's probably a question better answered by Ben (general manager Cherington) because no one knows what the return for any player if they're traded is going to bring."
