New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees recently said he would like to play until he is 45 years old and by coincidence, a day later he was “randomly” drug tested by the NFL.

Brees spoke to NFL.com’s Albert Breer and he said that the idea of playing for another 10 years has crossed his mind, but noting is guaranteed.

“No doubt. There's no question. I'm not getting ahead myself, like it's a pipe dream, at 45. I understand the challenges that come along with that. But why not? If I can stay healthy, and I'm having fun and playing at a high level, why wouldn't I wanna do that? The biggest challenge is physically, the maintenance, the recovery, the way you train. You gotta hope that you stay healthy, but why not?”

After his statement, Brees was subject to the NFL’s random drug testing and poked fun at the timing of the test.

Brees has been one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks for years now and is arguably one of the most important players on the Saints and the city of New Orleans. Brees joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006 after spending his first five season in San Diego.

Brees threw for 5162 yards and 39 touchdowns in 2013 and led the Saints to an 11-5 record with a playoff victory against the Philadelphia Eagles.
