In response to the Cleveland Browns request that he tone down his off-the-field behavior, a defiant Johnny Manziel said he wasn't going to change his ways.

Johnny Manziel confirms he's ready to become a one-girlfriend man with Colleen Crowley?

Of course, he might reconsider if he's in jeopardy of being cut.

Cleveland.com reported Friday that the former Heisman Trophy winner and Browns rookie quarterback has regressed in offseason practices and activities and has lost ground to incumbent starter Brian Hoyer.

"... Some in the organization attributed it to too much jet-setting and not enough dedication to the playbook," Cleveland.com reported. "Team officials had bought into Manziel's pre-draft promises to tone down the partying and leave his frat-boy lifestyle back in College Station, Texas, and they've been stunned by his non-stop antics, sources said."

In fact, the "open" competition that was supposed to take place between Manziel and Hoyer, stated as recently as Monday, now appears to be a job that is Hoyer's to lose, according to Cleveland.com:

"On Monday, (coach Mike Pettine) told cleveland.com that although Brian Hoyer is starting out No. 1 on the depth chart, he views the competition "as open'' and vowed to give Hoyer and Manziel reps with "the same supporting cast'' to make it as fair and even as possible.

"By Wednesday afternoon, after meeting with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains, Pettine told a second wave of reporters in one-on-one interviews that Manziel wouldn't be getting reps with the first team offense during the early days of training camp, which begins Saturday.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslem asked Manziel in June to tone down his public displays of partying after waves of photos hit the social media platforms showing Manziel in different cities, partying with different celebrities and/or women.

Manziel, however, was defiant.

"I'm not going to change who I am for anybody,'' Manziel told Cleveland.com. "I'm growing up and continuing to learn from my mistakes and trying not to make the same ones over and over again, but am I going to live in a shell or am I just going to hide from everybody and not do anything? I don't think that's the way I should live my life and I'm not going to do it.

"I am going to enjoy my time off."

So far, that strategy might not be working out the way Manziel or the Browns planned.
