Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has revealed that she attempted to abort the Portuguese star when she was pregnant with him.

The startling revelation was made by Dolores Aveiro in her tell-all autobiography titled 'Mother Courage' which was released on Friday in Portugal. According to Express UK, Aveiro said her doctor advised her against aborting the unborn fetus who turned out to be the Portuguese footballer. "I wanted to abort but the doctor didn't support my decision," she was quoted as saying.

But she still insisted, Aveiro said, that she turned to home remedies like drinking warm beer and running.

Her son already knows this secret, according to Aveiro. The Real Madrid forward was said to have told her mother: "Look mum, you wanted to abort and now I'm the one who's pulling the purse-strings in the house."

Ronaldo grew up in a poor family in Madeira, Portugal. Dolores' late husband, Dinis, died from liver damage due to excessive alcohol intake. She also talked about CR7's son Cristiano Jr. The Portuguese star has been very private about the identity of his son's mother.

She said Ronaldo told her after informing her that he would be a father: "I'm going to have a child and I want you to be the one to help me educate him and give him love, as you've always done with me and my brothers and sisters." She added that she picked up the child from a Florida clinic while her son was playing in the 2012 South Africa World Cup.

The autobiography was written with a Portuguese author.
