It took only a couple of days for an NBA team to acquire Carlos Boozer. The power forward was claimed off waivers Thursday by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com of the transaction.
Boozer was released by the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday by the Chicago Bulls.
Boozer is slated to earn $16.8 million during the 2014-2015 season. Teams with salary-cap room were allowed to submit blind bids for his services. The team that put forth the highest bid acquired Boozer - as it turns out that team was the Lakers.
Chicago must pay the difference between the winning bid and what's remaining on Boozer's salary.
Since coming to the Bulls from the Utah Jazz four years ago, Boozer has struggled to reclaim his All-Star status. He averaged just 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds last season. Those numbers are a far cry from the 19.5 points and 11.2 rebounds he registered during the 2009-2010 season -- his last in Utah.
"Carlos epitomized professionalism in everything he did for the Bulls both on the court, and in the community, during his time here in Chicago," Bulls GM Gar Forman said Tuesday. "Over the last four seasons, Carlos' productivity helped elevate our team to another level. I have nothing but respect for Carlos, and certainly wish him the best as he moves forward."
Interestingly, Boozer switches roster spots with center Pau Gasol. The Bulls used the league's amnesty provision on Boozer to clear more salary-cap space to sign Gasol and forward Nikola Mirotic.
