Despite the fact that Steve "Sting" Borden will be a playable character for those who pre-order the WWE 2K15 video game that comes out in October, he still hasn't signed a full-on deal with the company.

CM Punk's Relationship With The WWE Worse Than Ever

It was revealed in a video on RAW following a Sting Twitter tease, that those who pre-order the game will get to play as the "black and white" and "surfer" versions of Sting in 2K15. Despite the progress, Sting has yet to sign a contract with the company.

The WWE started releasing Sting merchandise along with the announcement that he will be in the game, but The Wrestling Observer reports that there is still no deal signed between the two as of Wednesday, though the sides are both working toward getting a pact done.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Discusses Potential WWE Return

The Sting likeness used on the new WWE merchandise was considered the intellectual property of WCW, which the WWE purchased in 2001, and the company feels as though they can use the images now to sell merchandise.

The WWE released a vignette confirming Sting's inclusion in the upcoming game, but the two sides haven't agreed to a contract in what has proved to be one of the longest negotiations in recent history. Sting remains the lone former WCW main eventer that WWE CEO Vince McMahon hasn't been able to sign despite the fact that they've had many close calls over the years.

There were rumors that the former WCW and TNA icon would sign with the WWE to face The Undertaker at this past April's WrestleMania XXX, but the match never came to fruition despite Sting being very interested in doing it.

The WWE reportedly considered signing Sting a low priority and went with Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker in New Orleans instead. Lesnar defeated The Undertaker and ended The Streak while 'Taker got injured during the match and his future is up in the air.

Following WrestleMania, there were reports that Sting had a contract in his possession and was close to signing it, but for whatever reason he has taken his time and it hasn't gotten done.

There are rumors that Sting might have his first match in the WWE -- and likely the last match of his career -- next March in the Bay Area at WrestleMania 31 due to his California ties.

It is possible that his final match will be against 'Taker if he's up for it or someone else, but it remains to be seen. There have also been Hall of Fame 2015 rumors surrounding Sting but that also hinges on him coming on board.

While no official deal is complete, Sting's inclusion in the WWE 2K15 video game and willingness to join the WWE family makes it seem as though something will get done between both sides soon.
