Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Justin Houston has decided to attend training camp instead of holding out for a new contract. Houston is expected to report on time, but it is believed that he is furious about the lack of progress on his deal.

Terez Paylor of The Kansas City Star was first to report Houston’s decision and also reports that their have been no formal discussion toward a new deal for Houston. Houston’s decision to attend camp most likely stems from the fact that another great season would do wonders for his status when he becomes a unrestricted free agent.

Houston has become a destructive force on the Kansas City defense and totaled 21 sacks in 2013. Houston was a third round pick in 2011 out of Georgia and was a bargain last season as he was paid $1.4 million. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk believes that the fines for missing training camp sessions factored into Houston’s decision.

“Houston remains upset with the Chiefs, but common sense likely will prompt him to show up for training camp, stopping the financial bleeding at a fine of roughly $70,000 and a lost workout bonus of $25,000.”

It’s unclear what the Chiefs plan to do with Houston, but if he matches or improves on his 2013 season he could be too good for Kansas City to let go.
