Adam Wainwright may have contributed to his team not hosting the World Series in 2014.

New York Mets oust reporter after he joked about Bartolo Colon's weight

USA TODAY Sports' For the Win reported Tuesday night that Wainwright, the St. Louis Cardinal and National League starting pitcher admitted that he intentionally threw some hittable pitches to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who was making his final All-Star Game appearance.

Jeter took one of Wainwright's offerings and hit it into the gap in right-center field. Jeter came home on a triple by Los Angeles Angels hitter Mike Trout. Miguel Cabrera then homered to give the American League a 3-0 lead.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan later tweeted that Wainwright had threw some pitches that Jeter could hit to honor the Yankee great.

Passan also defended Wainwright's choice to help out Jeter.

As For the Win pointed out, it seems strange that Wainwright would talk about giving Jeter some pitches to hit, rather than just doing it because it nullifies Jeter's accomplishment of hitting a double in his final World Series.

The American League went on to defeat the National League 5-3 to take home-field advantage in the World Series. Last season, the Boston Red Sox used home-field advantage to dispatch of Wainwright and the Cardinals in six games.

If the Cardinals can rally and get back to the World Series this season, it'll be interesting to watch whether the media bring up Wainwright's donation to Jeter's cause (that he subsequently took away by announcing).
