Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker on Saturday attended the Group One Darley July Cup in England to cheer on his racehorse named "Undrafted,"

However, the three time Super Bowl participant's presence was not enough as his racehorse finished fourth behind favorite Slade Power. According to CNN, Welker had to leave the Broncos pre-season training in Florida for several days to watch his racehorse ridden by jockey Frankie Dettori.

Prior to the race, Welker said he would not make the trip if he did not think that his racehorse had a good shot at winning.

Welker chose the name because he missed out on the draft after he completed college. As he told The Guardian UK: "I wasn't selected in either of the seven rounds and went undrafted. It's not an exact science. A lot of people go undrafted and luckily I got an opportunity and I was able to run with it. It was kind of a fitting name, I thought."

Welker says he is interested in horse racing because of the similarities between it and football. "They have short careers, and injuries play a huge part, so how you train them and get them ready is very similar to how we train and get ready. It's kind of cool to see the similarities between the two athletes."

The 33-year old Welker is also known to enjoying betting on the races. He was seen handing out several $100 bills to fans at this year's Kentucky Derby after winning on a bet.
