Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is 'getting better' after getting out of coma and transferring to a Swiss hospital last month, according to his wife.

Corinna Schumacher, the wife of the former Formula One champion, told Neue Post that her husband's improvement was encouraging. This was the first public comments of Mrs. Schumacher since her husband was involved in a horrific ski accident in December last year.

As quoted by The Independent, Mrs. Schumacher said: ""It's getting better, slowly certainly, but in any case it's improving."

The 47-year old Schumacher spent more than six months in a hospital in the French city of Grenoble after his head hit a rock while skiing in an Alpine resort. He was in a coma most of the time and lost a lot of weight. He regained consciousness sometime in June, prompting his transfer on June 16 to a hospital near his family's home in Lausanne in Switzerland.

It was also reported by the British online source that German newspaper Bild photographed Mrs. Schumacher laughing and distributing chocolates in Givrins, Switzerland over the weekend. The wife of the racing legend was said to be in good spirits, triggering speculations that her husband's health is finally improving. The couple has been together for 18 years.

Schumacher is paralyzed and speechless, although medical experts hope that he can improve his recovery enough for him to sit in a wheelchair.

The German newspaper also cited that Schumacher has begun to respond to the voice of his wife.
