Is this the end of the road for two-time NBA champion Lamar Odom?

The New York Knicks announced Friday that they have released the former Lakers forward because of lack of professionalism.

In a statement, team president Phil Jackson said, via ESPN.com: "Unfortunately, Lamar was unable to uphold the standards to return as an NBA player. We found it necessary to free up the roster spot."

This is the latest setback in the forward's career which started in 1999 as the first round pick of the LA Clippers. He was signed on April 16, the final day of the regular season, by the Knicks to a two-year contract.

His signing was one of the first moves of Jackson, who was his coach with the LA Lakers. Odom was a vital cog in the Lakers' championship teams in 2009 and 2010, playing as a point forward. He also won the Sixth Man of the Year award during his stay with the Lakers.

After his stint with the Lakers, he also played again for the Clippers in the 2012-13 season. His playing career however took a backseat when he married reality star Khloe Kardashian, whom he divorced in 2013.

During the 2013 offseason, he was also arrested on a driving under the influence charge. After failing to sign up with an NBA team, Odom went to Spain to play in the Spanish basketball league. But he only appeared in two games before returning to the United States due to a back injury.
