The Phoenix Suns are looking to add free agency’s top two prizes—four-time MVP LeBron James and Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.
According to Yahoo! Sports, league sources say that the Suns have $33.5 million in cap space and could make room for another $10 million to enable them to sign James and Anthony to maximum contracts.
The same sources say that the Suns believe they can do that without giving up its young core of guards Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and center Miles Plumlee. The young Suns almost made it to the playoffs last season with a 42-44 record.
The Suns also have rookies who could contribute right away in T.J. Warren from North Carolina, Tyler Ennis from Syrcause and Bogdan Bogdanovic of Serbia .
James could sign with the Suns and Phoenix would have enough cap room remaining to sign another high-profile star. This could be Anthony, or Chris Bosh, who is one of James' close friends and a current Heat teammate or Minnesota All-Star Kevin Love.
The Suns also have future first-round draft picks they could deal for veteran players who can contribute right away.
Phoenix management also believes that if it can sign LeBron, it can increase it chances of getting Anthony. It is widely believed that James and Anthony would embrace playing together. Anthony has expressed a desire to play for a serious title contender and partnering with LeBron and a group of young players could give him his best shot to win an NBA title.
