SummerSlam 2014 Rumors: Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar Canceled? WWE Going Back And Forth On Plans [VIDEO]

There have been conflicting reports regarding a possible Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Bryan match at WWE SummerSlam on Aug. 17, but now it appears as though the company will not be going through with that match after all.

The Miz Discusses WWE Roster And Budget Cuts

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, the WWE has been internally going back-and-forth on the plans for the second biggest show of the year and with Bryan's uncertain status due to his recovery from neck surgery, the consensus in WWE creative is that the match will not headline SummerSlam.

The company has reportedly rounded out the top part of its projected card and Bryan is in one of the main events, but due to the uncertainty of his health he is not slated to face Lesnar and is not a lock for the event. Bryan underwent surgery in mid-May to repair a neck injury he sustained over the years due to his in-ring style and is expected to tone down the risks he takes upon returning.

CM Punk Appearing On Television Thursday Night

It was originally reported that Bryan could be back as soon as June or as late as August, but now it appears as though he may not be back until Night of Champions in September. For what it's worth, Bryan isn't officially advertised for SummerSlam but he is being advertised for the Aug. 16 live event in San Jose the night before the event and for some events the week after SummerSlam.

The plan is to have Lesnar come back off of the heels of ending The Streak of The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX and say that he wants the WWE World Heavyweight Championship as a way to establish the title and make it more prestigious.

The plan was to have Lesnar defeat Bryan at SummerSlam and then build to a rematch at Night of Champions where Lesnar is expected to lose the title because it would be the last date he needs to fulfill on his part-time deal.

Lesnar will likely be facing whoever the champion is going into Money in the Bank, but unless Bryan wins the title at Battleground in July it likely won't be him. It's unknown if Bryan will even be ready for SummerSlam, much less Battleground.

There were reports that a heel might win the vacant WWE Championship in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match involving Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Cesaro, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and John Cena, but if the winner does in fact go on to face Lesnar, it is likely a face will win it.

It wouldn't be surprising if the WWE stuck the title on its biggest draw in Cena and had Lesnar defeat him for it at SummerSlam.

Bryan's neck injury may have changed the course of the WWE's plans for the summer as the SummerSlam main event remains a mystery.
