Metta World Peace has broken into the ranks of coaching, signing on as an assistant for the Palisades High School girls' hoops team.

The man who was front-and-center in arguably the most infamous brawl in NBA history will serve as an assistant to Palisades High coach Torino Johnson, who previously coached World Peace's daughter at the school four years ago.

Metta World Peace says Phil Jackson will win with Knicks

"He'll be heavily involved in our program," Johnson told ESPN.com. "We keep having, it's an ongoing dialogue, but it's all positive. There's no out. The only purpose for this is to be positive and to be impactful -- and this is of his choosing."

The 34-year old World Peace has played 15 seasons, including 29 games last season with his hometown New York Knicks. The volatile forward won a title playing under Phil Jackson and alongside Kobe Bryant with the Lakers in 2010.

Palisades finished its 2013-14 season at 21-12 and won the L.A. City Section Division 2 title the year before in 2012.

"No one else that I know of in high school basketball has this opportunity, where they have a current NBA veteran on their coaching staff who can divulge that expertise," said Johnson. "It's kind of all hands on deck for us and we're very fortunate and excited about him wanting to be a presence in our program."

World Peace best NBA season came with the Indiana Pacers in 2004-05 when he averaged 26 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
