The Cleveland Cavaliers have added Mark Jackson to their list of coaching candidates.

ProBasketballTalk.com reports the Cavs and owner Dan Gilbert "have made back channel inquiries" about the 49-year-old Jackson, unceremoniously dumped as coach of the Warriors at the end of the season despite leading the team to 51 wins.

Stephen Curry angry over Mark Jackson firing

The Cavs fired Mike Brown at the end of the season after finishing the year 33-49 and out of the playoffs in the watered-down Eastern Conference. The team is rumored to have already interviewed Alvin Gentry and Tyronn Lue and to have made contact with Nate McMillan and former team star Mark Price.

In all, Jackson spent three seasons in Golden State, where he also led the organization to back-to-back playoff berths for the first time in nearly two decades. Overall, Jackson went 121-109 as coach of the Warriors, 98 of his victories coming over his last two seasons.

Mark Jackson to Knicks?

Jackson also played 17 NBA seasons, five of them with his hometown New York Knicks where he was named Rookie of the Year in 1987-88. Jackson best season came with the Knicks in 1988-89 when he averaged 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds and two steals. Jackson also played for the Clippers, Pacers, Nuggets, Raptors, Jazz and Rockets.

Jackson was also rumored to be a candidate for the Knicks coaching job before new president of basketball operations Phil Jackson moved this week to hire longtime Lakers star Derek Fisher.
