The Denver Nuggets are growing more concerned about the lingering left ankle injury that caused star guard Ty Lawson the season's final six games.

"I still can't run," Lawson told the Denver Post this week of the injury. "They said it's no surgery, just another three or four weeks just staying off of it, not really doing too much."

The five-year veteran is coming off a career season where he averaged 18 points, nine assists, four rebounds and two steals, but was only able to take the court for 62 games.

"I didn't think it was that bad, either, until seven weeks after it happened and I still couldn't run," Lawson told The Post of his latest medical issue. "So I was like, 'I need to get this checked out.' "

Initially, Lawson was told to simply continue resting his ankle after neither an X-rays nor an MRI showed any structural damage. The 26-year-old veteran is now hoping to be able to start conditioning and training exercises sometime in July in anticipation for next season.

"Normally, I'm not going to say I take it easy, but this summer I'm going to go hard at it and see what happens this next season," said the former North Carolina star. "I'm going to be in the gym 24/7 this summer. I want to come into training camp in better condition, better shape."
