Fate wasn't working so well for Caroline Wozniacki, so she turned to a little bit of sorcery on Friday.

Rory McIlroy broke up with fiancee Caroline Wozniacki over the phone

USA TODAY Sports' For the Win reported that the former No. 1 women's tennis player, jilted last week by former No. 1 men's golfer Rory McIlroy, changed the avatar photo on her Twitter account to one of her dressed as a witch stirring something in a cauldron.

It was a photo she had tweeted last October in a pre-Halloween celebration.

The voo doo that she do worked out pretty well.

McIlroy, who won last week's BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour and had shot an opening-round 63 to take the lead at the Memorial on Thursday, suddenly blew up on Friday with a 6-over 78 to fall nearly 10 strokes behind second-round leader and countryman Paul Casey, who was at 12-under after 15 holes Friday.

Caroline Wozniacki "shocked" over breakup with Rory McIlroy

"I missed fairways; that was the big thing," McIlroy said about the difference from Thursday, according to ESPN. "I didn't realize how thick the rough was until I got in it today. It's thick.

"I hit a decent drive on 10 [his first hole], was just in the rough, couldn't get to the green, made bogey there. And then I just kept missing fairways and making it tough for myself. And obviously that little three-hole stretch -- 13, 14, 15 -- didn't help. Take those three holes out of it, then it wouldn't actually have been that bad a day.

"These little runs I'm getting on where it gets away from me, I was able to avoid that last week. Not so much this week."

McIlroy called off his engagement to Wozniacki the day before the BMW. He said the breakup was mutual, which was later refuted in comments Wozniacki made when she said the breakup came as sort of a "shock."

Earlier this week, more reports surfaced that McIlroy broke up with Wozniacki over the phone during a three-minute conversation. Wozniacki said she thought it was a joke.

Then, McIlroy went out and won the BMW PGA while Wozniacki, who is dealing with a knee injury that prevented her from being able to run or serve for weeks, lost her opening-round match at the French Open.

Whether her decision to put up a "sinister" photo had anything to do with her very public breakup with McIlroy is unclear, but For the Win also implied a connection.

Look, it's possible Caroline is really excited about Halloween being five months away and changed her avatar to reflect that. But it's hard not to make a connection between the photo of her menacingly brewing up a spell and the events of the past 10 days.
