After bucking the odds to win the NBA Lottery this past week, the Cleveland Cavaliers now set their sights on filling their head coaching vacancy.
Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach TyronneLue will be interviewed by the Cavaliers next week as the Cavs try to find a coach who will lead a young team back to the playoffs.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! writes that the Cavaliers have looked at college coaches for a potential head coach and are now going through the list of assistant coaches and ex-head coaches with the hope they'll find a good tactician to lead them back to relevancy.
With the team owning the first pick in the June 28 Draft that is considered as one of the deepest in recent years, the Cavs' head coaching vacancy should become more appealing.
The team will mostly likely choose from three players considered as franchise cornerstones—Joel Embiid, Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker—to pair with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. It remains to be seen though how last year's top pick Anthony Bennett will fare in the upcoming season after a disastrous rookie year.
Lue has spent five years as an assistant of coach Doc Rivers with the Clippers and Boston Celtics. He played 10 seasons in the league for eight teams. He was part of the Lakers' 2000 and 2001 championship teams.
Another Clippers coaching staff member, Alvin Gentry, is also considered as a top candidate for the Cavaliers coaching job.
