Tonight at 8:00 p.m., The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings faceoff for Game 3 of their best-of-seven Western Conference Finals series live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles as part of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As the series shifts to southern California for the first time, Chicago looks to take home ice away from their adversaries after splitting the first two games at the United Center while Los Angeles hopes to win its second game in a row to lead the series for the first time.
The Blackhawks won the first game of the series 3-1 and the Kings bounced back with an astounding third period effort in Game 2 to come-from-behind and win 6-2 to take home ice away from Chicago.
The Blackhawks are coming off of dropping their first game on home ice in these playoffs, in a game that saw Los Angeles erase a 2-0 deficit by rattling off six unanswered goals, five of which came in the third frame.
"The way it turned on a dime like that, I don't know if we've seen a game like that all year where we're doing everything right and then all of a sudden it was a disaster," coach Joel Quenneville told the Chicago Tribune after Game 2.
The Kings have overcome adversity all postseason long, erasing a 3-0 series deficit in Round 1 against the Sharks and coming back from a 3-2 hole in Round 2 against the Ducks, winning both series' in seven games.
"Just sticking with what we need to do," Jeff Carter , who had a hat trick in Game 2, told CBS Sports. "You know, we got a good group of leaders in our room. We've been through comebacks and whatnot a lot lately. Obviously, not something we want to do. But we stick with it, grind it out, get the job done."
Carter is second on the Kings this postseason with 16 points off of seven goals and nine assists while Anze Kopitar leads the NHL playoffs in points (20) and assists (15) and has added five tallies. Marian Gaborik leads the NHL with nine goals this postseason and has added six helpers to rank third on L.A. with 15 points.
Marian Hossa has paced Chicago in these playoffs with 13 points off of two goals and by ranking tied for second in the postseason with 11 assists while captain Jonathan Toews (six goals, five assists) and defenseman Brent Seabrook (two marker, nine helpers) each have 11 points.
In net, Chicago turns to Corey Crawford, who is 9-5 this postseason while ranking third in goals-against average (2.11) and save percentage (.926). Los Angeles counters with Jonathan Quick between the pipes, and the netminder is 9-7 with a 2.70 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
The series shifts to California when the Blackhawks and Kings hit the ice at the Staples Center for Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals as part of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
