Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was formally charged Friday with two counts of misdemeanor driving. The charges, which were filed in Hamilton County [Indiana] Superior Court, stem from a March 16 arrest in Carmel.

According to police, the 54-year-old Irsay had $29,000 in cash and prescription drugs in his possession when he was arrested. After his arrest, the billionaire spent time in a treatment facility.

Irsay was cited with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his body, according to a USA Today. If convicted, Irsay faces a maximum of 60 days in jail and a $500 fine on each charge.

A hearing on the matter is scheduled for June 19, ESPN.com reports.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has faced criticism from several players for the way in which he has responded to Irsay's arrest, compared to the manner in which it has dealt with players under similar circumstances.

According to ESPN.com, Redskins safety Ryan Clark inferred that the NFL would have quickly punished a player for the crime Irsay is alleged to have committed. The league has yet to take any disciplinary action against Irsay, and no time has been set to do so. But it is reviewing the matter, according to NFL senior vice president of communications Greg Aiello.

"The NFL's Personal Conduct Policy applies to all league personnel and holds all of us accountable," Aiello said in a statement. "We are reviewing the matter and will take appropriate action in accordance with the policy."
