Cruz Azul Transfer News: Gerardo 'Jerry' Flores Transfer Target For Chivas Guadalajara?

Chivas Guadalajara's pursuit of Mexican talent in Liga MX continues to be a narrative ahead of the summer transfer window. Already interested in the services of Isaac Brizuela, Carlos Esquivel and Angel Reyna, the 11-time Liga MX champions have set their sights on Cruz Azul wing-back Gerardo "Jerry" Flores.

Cruz Azul Not Exercising Marco Fabian's $8 Million Option?

The 28-year-old made just nine appearances for the club in 2014, but failed to score and assist a single goal. Flores did, however, create eight quality chances according to the Opta Sports data officially licensed by Squawka.

Despite a lack of playing time, Flores, who spent the last four years with Cruz Azul, showed no signs of desiring an exit from Mexico City. Helping the club end its league-title drought remained his priority (h/t to La Copa). "We've been very close and really it's just a matter of time before this club lifts the cup," Flores said before Cruz Azul was ultimately eliminated in 2014 Clausura Liguilla.

Marco Fabian Not Thinking About A Transfer, Focused On Mexican National Team

"I think we shouldn't lose the hunger to be a champion. We have to keep fighting until the last minute and keep demonstrating that the CONCACAF Champions League final is ours," he added.

"Then, go for the league and leave it all on the pitch to get it."

Unfortunetely, La Maquina didn't.

Should Flores decide to swap allegiances for Chivas Guadalajara, he'll leave behind a winning opportunity—one far closer to success than the situation the Goats currently find themselves in. Being a part of a reclamation project at Estadio Omnilife and returning the club to glory is the only selling point Guadalajara has in its favor, but will it be enough to complete a transfer for Flores' services?
