It has been rumored since around WrestleMania XXX that Steve "Sting" Borden signing with the WWE was imminent, but now that it's been over a month since the initial reports, imminent is no longer the word that should be used to describe the situation.
Daniel Bryan Returning In June For Money In The Bank?
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Sting is not close to finally signing a WWE deal despite numerous reports over the last few months saying that an official signing should happen "any day now."
The former WCW and TNA icon has always been an elusive signing for WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon as the company has gone after him for years and has even come close to signing him a couple of times but Sting has always gotten cold feet about finally appearing in the WWE.
Bill Goldberg Talks About Return, Who He Wants To Face
Sting revealed in an interview that he had talks with the WWE a few years back and that he came close to signing with the company back then. Even then, there was a deal in place where WWE believed that Sting would come in to work 100 dates, however Sting didn't take the deal and eventually took a deal from TNA instead.
This could be another situation where Sting agrees to a deal in principle but backs out of signing it for whatever reason and leaves the deal on the table. Sting has been scheduled to work on some WWE DVD and WWE Network projects, as he did when he appeared on Warrior: The Ultimate Legend last month.
The WWE had always wanted to bring Sting in to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and there were rumors the two legends would face off at WrestleMania XXX on April 6 in New Orleans, but the WWE chose to go with Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker instead.
There was then the possibility of 'Taker and Sting doing battle at WrestleMania 31 in the Bay Area, but after The Undertaker lost The Streak to Lesnar and got injured in the match, his wrestling future is up in the air and he may be done with wrestling forever.
There were reports that Sting would have one last match and a 2015 Hall of Fame induction due to Sting's California ties. Now, it's unknown if Sting will even end up signing with the WWE at all.
