Earl Watson wants to be the next Jason Kidd.

Still a member of the Portland Trailblazers roster, Watson is now angling for what would be his first career head coaching job of any kind via his former Utah Jazz team. Kidd famously went from a Knicks uniform to the Brooklyn Nets coaching hotseat this season, leading the Nets franchise he previously played for while they were still in New Jersey to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

A 13-year NBA veteran, Watson previously spent three seasons in Utah, and remains favorably looked upon by many of the players left behind.

"I'm definitely pulling for Earl to get the job," Jazz forward Gordon Hayward told ProBasketballTalk.com. "He's a great guy and has a great basketball mind. If he did become our coach and I got to play under him, it would be great because I know how hard he'll work and prepare us. He's a true professional and I think no matter where he ends up, he'll be a great head coach in the NBA."

In addition, the website reports the 34-year-old Watson is widely viewed by execs from across the league as "one of the few current players capable of making a smooth transition into the NBA coaching profession shortly following retirement."

There are even rumors longtime retired NBA coach and current NBA analyst Hubie Brown might be willing to join his prospective staff in some capacity. The Jazz parted ways with coach Tyrone Corbin after less than four full seasons earlier this year.
