NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas is in talks to return to the Detroit Pistons' franchise he once fueled to some of its most storied times as a minority owner.

Days after the team installed Stan Van Gundy as president of basketball operations and head coach, ProBasketballTalk.com reports the team is now discussing the possibility of a long rumored reunion with the outspoken Thomas.

Though the exact details of the would-be partnership have not been publicly unveiled, the stake offer is said to be significant and would surely make Thomas one of the most well-known of just a handful of African-American owners.

"Not a ceremonial piece, but a respectable piece," a source told ProBasketball of Thomas' proposed deal with new Pistons owner Tom Gores.

Isiah Thomas to replace Joe Dumars in Detroit?

Beginning in the late 1980s, Thomas, teaming with Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, Mark Aguirre and Bill Laimbeer, sparked the chapter in Pistons basketball lore still known as the "Bad Boy" era, ultimately leading Detroit to back-to-back NBA titles commencing in 1989.

Overall, the 53-year-old Thomas played 13 NBA seasons, all in Detroit, and was named an All-Star 12 times and one of the league's 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

Known as "Zeke" throughout his career, Thomas averaged 19.2 points, 9.3 assists and 3.6 rebounds. His best overall statistical season came in 1984-85 when he averaged 21. 2 points, 13.9 assists and 4.5 rebounds.
