Spurned by longtime prodigy Steve Kerr, Phil Jackson is wasting little time turning to plan B as he quietly goes about the business of desperately trying to rebuild the struggling New York Knicks in his image.

To that end, the Knicks' new president is now turning to Derek Fisher and Kurt Rambis, both of whom are well-versed in his legendary triangle offense, as the leading candidates to replace the long ago ousted Mike Woodson.

Phil Jackson takes over Knicks

Jackson openly pursued Kerr for several months, before Kerr, who won three titles playing for Jackson in Chicago with Michael Jordan, announced he would be taking the coaching job in Golden State.

The 39-year-old Fisher, who is also rumored to be on the Lakers' radar, recently told ESPN "I would tell people to allow me to finish my career as a player before they give me another job after that."

The 56-year-old Rambis coached three seasons under Jackson in L.A., winning titles in 2002 and 2004. When Jackson later returned to again lead the Lakers so did Rambis, the end result being the Lakers soon again being crowned NBA champs, this time in back-to-back seasons beginning in 2008. A year later, Rambis took over as coach of the Timberwolves in his first head coaching gig.

Jackson is also said to be high on Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue and there are rumblings native New Yorker Mark Jackson will almost certainly be added to the mix at some point. Jackson led the Warriors to 51 wins this season and the franchise's first back-to-back playoff berths in nearly two decades, but still was let go by the team, leading to the opening Kerr just moved to fill.
