Despite a perceived advantage as the "home team," Ireland has had its struggles at the Clontarf Cricket Club. Sri Lanka won the first ODI by 79 runs, despite scoring just 219-8 in their 50 overs. Sri Lanka's spinnersAjantha Mendis and Sachithra Senanayake gave the Irish plenty of headaches, and bowlers Suranga Lakmal and Nuwan Kulasekara were crucial as well.
Ireland was limited to a measly 140 runs in 39.5 overs. Only William Potterfield, the Irish skipper, and Niall O'Brien served as the big boppers as they were responsible for 37 and 33 runs respectively.
Sri Lanka was missing several key batsmen, including Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan, and fell behind 95-5 before being lifted by Kulasekara and Chandimal.
Look out for Kusal Perera in today's matchup, as he's due for a bounceback performance following a zero-run outing in the first ODI. Ed Joyce was also held without a run in the first ODI, and that cannot happen again if the Irish harbor any hopes of upsetting the heavy favorite.
