With WWE Extreme Rules in the rearview mirror, the company has switched gears and is focused on Payback, which takes place live from the Allstate Arena in Chicago on June 1. The rumored main event for the show is a Buried Alive match between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and Kane.

Monday Night RAW Spoilers and Previews

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, if the WWE can't convince Batista to take on Bryan for the title at Payback, the company will go in the direction of a Kane vs. Bryan Buried Alive match to main event the show.

Sports World News reported earlier that Batista supposedly turned down a match with Bryan at Payback because he didn't want to lose to the smaller Bryan twice after tapping out against him at WrestleMania XXX on April 6. Batista is slated to take some time off until August's SummerSlam to promote his movie Guardians of the Galaxy and he didn't want to go into that hiatus losing to Bryan again.

WWE Has Plans For Use Of Bill Goldberg Leading Into WrestleMania 31

According to reports, Batista's official status for Payback is up in the air as he was rumored to be taking a hiatus following the Extreme Rules event but gave the impression Sunday night that he'd stay on through Payback.

WWE CEO Vince McMahon and other WWE officials are reportedly still trying to have Batista agree to work the match with Bryan at the June 1 event in Chicago and are hoping that they can convince "The Animal" to work the show.

The working plan now if Batista can't be convinced is to run the Buried Alive match between Kane and Bryan following Bryan scoring a win over The Big Red Machine Sunday night at Extreme Rules after putting him through a flaming table and hitting Knee Plus for the pinfall win.

WWE officials were reportedly unhappy with Batista switching their plans for Payback and are hoping that they will be able to convince him to work the match though his status is up in the air for the next couple of months.

Things may become clearer when Batista appears on Monday Night RAW in Albany despite the fact that Extreme Rules was slated to be his final show before he leaves for his hiatus, and perhaps his status will become clearer after that appearance.

With Payback over three weeks away, the main event is anything but certain while McMahon hopes that Batista will work the match with Bryan.
