As if the Washington Redskins moniker didn't already have enough controversy.

Native American group pulls sponsorship of charity event to protest Washington Redskins foundation

Washingtonian.com reported Tuesday that a gun show in Chantilly, Va., a Caroline County gun shop had an AR-15 assault rifle on display. That wasn't odd at a gun show.

What was odd was that the rifle had the Redskins logo emblazoned on it. The weapon has piqued the curiosity of the NFL.

"We are looking into it," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an email to Washingtonian. "We do not license manufacturers of firearms for use of NFL marks or logos."

Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation a ploy by Daniel Snyder to buy Native Americans silence over Redskins moniker?

Washingtonian.com reported that Aiello stressed that the issue was one of licensing, not a position on the Second Amendment - the right to bear arms.

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has been facing opposition from various Native American tribes, as well as members of congress, over the use of "Redskins," which is generally considered a derogatory term toward Native Americans.

When asked for comment on the moniker on the rifle, a team spokesman did not respond to Washingtonian.

Terminal Performance was the entity that had the rifle customized, Washingtonian reported. It lists a sale price of $2,000 for the Redskins AR-15, but a Terminal Performance employee told the Washingtonian that the rifle was a one-of-a-kind stunt for display purposes only and will not be sold.

However, a detailed description of the gun on the Terminal Performance website, suggests the intent of a sale:

"Angels will be heard singing 'Hail to the Redskins' in the background as you feast your eyes on this one of a kind tribute to our nation's capitol [sic] home team. The National Football League's Washington Redskins take center stage in an extraordinary custom AR-15 build.
