NBA commissioner Adam Silver will wait for an official investigation to be conducted before imposing any sanctions on LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling who is under fire for allegedly making racist remarks against African-Americans.

While saying that Sterling should be given due process, Silver said the NBA will be quick in conducting an investigation on the audio clip released by TMZ Sports. He added that Sterling won't be attending the Clippers' playoff game against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

Via ESPN.com, Silver said in a press briefing before game 4 of the Memphis Grizzlies- Oklahoma City Thunder series: "All members of the NBA family should be afforded due process and a fair opportunity to present their side of any controversy. The core of the investigation is understanding whether the tape is authentic, interviewing Mr. Sterling and interviewing the woman as well and understanding the context in which it was recorded."

The NBA commissioner assured the public that the league will get to the bottom of the issue as quickly as possible. He also said that the brouhaha is unfair to the Clippers players and coaches because the team is embroiled in a highly-competitive first-round play-off series against the Warriors. The Clippers lead that series, 2-1.

He added that the league won't entertain second thoughts on meting sanctions on Sterling according to its constitution and bylaws.

According to ESPN, there is a possibility that Silver would meet with the embattled Clippers owner in California as he is scheduled to be in Oakland in time for the Clippers-Warriors game.
