Now that the New York Knicks have fired former coach Mike Woodson and his entire coaching staff, new president Phil Jackson will make his move to fill the vacancy and meet with former protégé Steve Kerr over the weekend to discuss the possibility of the broadcaster accepting the position.

According to a source close to the New York Daily News, Jackson and Kerr will meet in New York over the weekend. Kerr, an analyst for TNT, will be covering Game 4 of the Raptors-Nets series in Brooklyn on Sunday.

While Kerr has no previous coaching experience in the NBA, he is believed to be the front-runner for the coaching gig especially with his closeness with Jackson, who coached him to three titles in Chicago.

On Monday, Kerr admitted that he will soon talk with his former coach about the possibility of coaching the Knicks. A few days later, Jackson spoke glowingly about his former Chicago Bulls sharpshooter. Per NY Daily News: "I know philosophically we have a strong connection. Whether he's able to take a job like this, I don't know. I'll get in the conversation with him later on this month and talk to him about it, and see where he's at as far as his desire to coach."

It is also believed that other teams will make a run at Kerr in case he decides not to accept the Knicks coaching position. Playoff teams like the Thunder, Warriors and Rockets could make changes in the offseason if they fail to make a deep run in the playoffs. Of course, there is also the possibility that he could coach the LA Lakers.
