With two weeks until the NFL Draft, it seems that it’s a forgone conclusion the Houston Texans will be selecting South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney with the number one overall pick. The real fun comes after they make the pick and the speculation begins as to where Clowney ends up come May 11th when the draft is said and done.

Sports World News NFL Mock Draft 6.0

Gil Brandt of NFL.com believes that history will repeat itself and the Texans will trade Clowney for a king's ransom after they select him on draft day. Brandt believes that this draft can mirror the draft when the Chargers selected Eli Manning at No. 1 overall, only to trade him to the Giants at No. 4 for Philip Rivers. That trade has worked out for both sides, but would a trade for Clowney end up being beneficial for both sides in the long run?

We wouldn’t know the logistics of the trade until the day of the draft, of course, but if a team like the Falcons can grab a player the Texans want, there is no reason the trade shouldn't take place. In a perfect world the Texans could trade the rights to Clowney to the Falcons for the right to Khalil Mack if he is available. The Texans get a player they are rumored to be in love with and they collect extra draft picks in the process.

The Texans have all the options in the world at No. 1 and it could be in their best interest to trade away Clowney for a ransom of picks and the rights to Mack. As a pure 3-4 outside linebacker Mack would be the ideal fit for this Houston defense.
