TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager, as well known for his outlandish wardrobe as his on-point interviews and analysis, has been diagnosed with acute leukemia and is scheduled to begin undergoing treatment this weekend.

"My dad's 3-4 week acute leukemia treatments start tmrw," Craig Sager II posted on Twitter on Friday. "Be thinking of him & let's get him back on the sidelines soon."

Seemingly suggesting that his dad may not be back anytime soon, Sager II later added "we'll be watching lots of basketball together these playoffs. And it's more time for him to brainstorm some new outfits."

The NBA playoffs kick off this weekend, and the games certainly won't be the same without the colorful Sager, a fixture on TNT's Thursday night doubleheader telecasts for nearly the last two decades.

During that time, Sager has bantered with a who's who among NBA superstars, once being stopped mid-interview by Kevin Garnett and given the directive to "burn" his entire outfit once he got home, shoes and socks included.

Sager joined CNN in 1981 and has been a national sports broadcaster every since.
