Carmelo Anthony seemingly can't win for losing.

The free-agent to be, All-Star forward admitted to the New York Daily News he wants to come back to the Knicks next season, but quickly added "I also want to win. I don't know if I can afford another season of losing."

Indeed, 2013-14 has proven to be a season to forget for the Knicks, who after winning 50-plus games last season, lost roughly the same amount during their most recent doomed campaign.

Melo won't wait on Knicks

Certainly, the 29-year-old Anthony will have options. The league's No. 2 overall scorer (27.4 ppg) behind Kevin Durant is expected to draw interest from the Bulls, Lakers and Rockets.

While the Knicks can offer Anthony roughly $30 million more than any other team and can now boast of having Phil Jackson to run the organization, all the past losing may have Anthony leaning toward taking a page out of Dwight Howard's playbook.

Even though L.A. offered him the most money, Howard ditched the Lakers and Kobe Bryant last summer for Houston based on its superior roster and the chance to play in a system he thought was more conducive to his style.
