Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET the New York Knicks (35-45) will take the court at Brooklyn's Barclays Center to face the Nets (44-36) in a matchup with much of the juice sucked out thanks to the Knicks' rocky season ending with no postseason berth. As the Knicks play for pride, and maybe coach Mike Woodson's job, the Nets will be preparing for the playoffs. Watch the game on TNT or live stream it here. Knicks fans can find the game on 98.7 ESPN New York, while Nets fans can hear the action on 101.9 WFAN FM.
The Nets may have their spot locked up, but rookie head coach Jason Kidd isn't letting the starters rest completely leading up to the postseason. After the Orlando Magic recently cut a dozen-point lead to six, Kidd put the starters in to close out the game.
"We got to continue to get better each time we take the floor," Kidd said. "That's one reason why I brought those guys back late in the fourth, was to give them ... different situations of time and score and being able to execute and get stops."
This rivalry was supposed to become one of the NBA's best, but blowouts have reigned. Now, the Knicks have little to play for and it's likely that Carmelo Anthony's season is over. Woodson said he plans on sitting Anthony, who has a banged up shoulder, for the final two games.
"I'm going to tell him I'm not going to play him. That's what I'm going to do," Woodson said. Anthony may have played his final game as a Knick already if Woodson's words are true. At season's end the coach may be dismissed as well. He apologized to Knicks fans for their supremely disappointing campaign.
"Being the coach, I just apologize to the fans, because again, they pay their hard-earned money to come out and see us play and we didn't come into this season expecting this," Woodson said.
