Kansas freshman star Joel Embiid is expected to announce in a mid-afternoon press conference he is declaring for the upcoming NBA draft.

ProBasketballTalk.com reports Embiid will make his announcement alongside Jayhawks coach Bill Self during a 2 p.m. Wednesday press conference. Embiid, who averaged 11 points on 63 percent shooting, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in 23.1 minutes per game, could be the No. 1 pick in the entire draft.

Joel Embiid projected as top overall draft pick?

At just 20 years old, the 7-foot, 250 pound freshman is considered to have one of the highest upsides in the draft, given his mix of skills and athleticism. Embiid missed the Jayhawks last six games of the year, including the NCAA tournament, with a back injury.

Jabari Parker pressed for NBA draft decision

If not the top pick, Embiid is certainly expected to be a lottery selection in a deep draft that could also include freshmen stars Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Aaron Gordon, Julius Randle and Tyler Ennis.

Of that group, and if the rumors about Embiid are true, all but Parker and Randle have already declared for the June 26 extravaganza, with both the Duke and Kentucky stars soon expected to join the fray.
