Prior to Monday night's national championship game, boxing's pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., a Las Vegas resident, was rumored to have bet $8 million on the Kentucky Wildcats in the Final Four.
Not too long ago he was also rumored to have bet $10 million on the Denver Broncos to win the Super Bowl. That was proven false, and the rumblings of his major wager on the Wildcats is likely also untrue. Mayweather did bet a far more reasonable sum on the UConn Huskies in the title game, though. In typical Floyd style, he tweeted out the winning receipt.
"I bet on the underdogs @uconnhuskies twice within the last three days. $75,636," Floyd happily tweeted. While he's renowned for his propensity for high-stakes gambling, the sums sometimes attributed to him are outlandish. As he said after debunking the Broncos rumors, "For the record, I did not bet $10 million on the Broncos.
"As a matter of fact, I didn't bet all. I can't control what rumors that are put out there. Good or bad publicity keeps me relevant. The only thing I would bet $10 million on is myself. From the looks of my record, I'm a guaranteed win."

While nothing is ever "guaranteed," his assessment of his chances isn't too far off. Floyd's listed at -1400 for his May 3 bout with Marcos Maidana, a slugger fresh off batter Mayweather's protégé Adrien Broner in December of 2013.
While Maidana is a big underdog, he feels he'll be able to bring the fight to Floyd like he did against "The Problem."
"I want to beat him. Canelo Alvarez did not go after him," Maidana said. "He didn't do anything and allowed [Mayweather] to work. I always go out to press my rival, to corner him and to unload my punches, and with Mayweather I am going to do the same."
