One of the fastest growing sports in college had only it’s seventh World Cup Saturday. Texas topped Texas State 130*-70 to clinch their second straight World Cup. The sport, by the way, is Quidditch.

The International Quidditch Association recognizes 300 teams in the word and the top 80 make their way to Mytle Beach for the World Cup. Over 1,200 players from all over the country and teams from Great Britain and New Zealand, make their way into North Carolina to play for the World Cup once a year.

The official rules and regulations from the IQA’s website

Quidditch is a co-ed contact sport with a unique mix of elements from rugby, basketball, and dodgeball. A quidditch team is made up of seven athletes who play with brooms between their legs at all times. While the game can appear chaotic to the casual observer, quidditch is an exciting sport to watch and is even more fun to play.

Margo Aleman captured the snitch to give Texas their back-to-back championship victory. World Cup VII was seen as a success to the IQA and has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. Before long we could be seeing the NCAA look into the idea of having a true college program for quiddicth, but until then the IQA is doing a great job with the league. Until next year.
