The New England Patriots aren't in the market for a quarterback in the moment, but what about three years from now? Looks like the Patriots are covering all the bases considering Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater are in Foxboro for a pre-draft visit.
The rumor mill has started to turn about the Patriots' interest in a first round quarterback and specifically their interest in Manziel and Bridgewater. The original rumor was that Manziel was the only player in town so the Patriots must be looking at him for positions other than quarterback. Its not totally ludicrous considering many college athletes change position in the NFL, but do we really think the Patriots brought Manziel in to play slot?
Bridgewater’s involvement put all those rumors to bed and proved the Patriots want to see what these two quarterbacks can do. Observations you can make are that the Patriots think that these two can fall, Blake Bortles is a lock to go in the early goings of the first round. Another possible scenario is the Patriots want to gauge the value of the quarterbacks on the chance someone wants to trade up to snag one of them.
Whatever the Patriots are thinking, it almost always concerns the needs of the now and the needs of the future. Bill Belichick is a master at causing the right media storm and getting the max value out of his picks. Not all of his picks pan out, but he always gets the players he wants. Look for the Patriots to trade out of that no. 29 spot.
