Sports World News’ official mock draft starts today with the 2014 NFL Draft 41 days away in Radio City Music Hall. We will be updating the mock draft every Friday and will be in three parts. Part one will be 1-10, part two will be 11-20 and part three will be 21-32. Here is part one:
Sports World News NFL Mock Draft 3.0: Part Two
Sports World News NFL Mock Draft 3.0: Part Three
1. Houston Texans: Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida
I have finally folded into the QB to the Texans crowd and the best at the moment is Bortles. He has the size and can make all the throws at the NFL level. Bill O’Brien worked miracles with Matt McGloin so lets see what he can do when he has a potential NFL star.
2. TRADE Atlanta Falcons (Via Rams via Redskins): Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
The Falcons have announced they are interested in moving up and water is wet. The Falcons will try to work this deal until the second the pick is made to get Clowney. He would automatically help the pass rush issues the Falcons have had for years and would be nice next to Tyson Jackson.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo
The one thing the Jags need more than QB is a pass rush. Gus Bradley has to play Andrew Luck, Jake Locker and now Blake Bortles six times so getting to them would take heat off whoever the new QB is. Mack is as good as they come at rushing the passer in this draft.
4. Cleveland Browns: Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
The Browns have purged the QB position and the fact that they have two first round picks will benefit them again. They grab the top playmaker in the draft in Watkins. The Browns wide receiver situation goes from terrible to one of the best in two seasons. If only they had someone who could throw the ball. Note: The only top 10 pick to stay the same in version 3.0
5. Oakland Raiders: Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
The Raiders have a QB to groom behind Matt Schaub for the 2014 season. They could still go OT here, but Teddy is a great deal at five. The Raiders have added some good pieces and should show some improvement, but let Schaub take the hits in 2014 until the team develops and Bridgewater is ready.
6. St. Louis Rams (via Falcons): Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
The Rams trade back and still get their guy at six. The Rams are stuck with Sam Bradford for another season so they might as well keep him upright with this selection. Also helps the future QB of the Rams. They also add more picks from trading back
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M
Mike Williams proved he cant be trusted and Evans is a rare talent at WR. Ironically he compares a lot to Vincent Jackson, so while learns all of Jackson’s tricks he will line up opposite of him and give Josh McCown some weapons
8. TRADE Chicago Bears (via Vikings): Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh
The Bears trade with the Vikings to they the first DT off the board before someone else does. Playing against Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford can have that effect on you. Look at what the Bears have done on defense and you tell me if they are gunning for the QB.
9. Buffalo Bills: Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M
The Bills get a steal in Matthews who is my top tackle in this draft. Matthews shows a lot of comparisons to his Hall of Fame father and if the Bills get half the player he use to be EJ Manuel and whoever takes over for him in 2016 will be well protected.
10. Detroit Lions: Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State
The Lions have been in the CB market for a long time now. They almost took Prince Amukamara instead of Nick Fairley and finally get their guy years later. Gilbert is a good talent who needs some coaching and could become the Lions best CB overnight. The Lions could take Mike Evans if he is available.
