New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has decided the team will not pursue free agent receiver Kenny Britt and the team's experience with former tight end Aaron Hernandez is one of the primary reasons why.

During this week's NFL owners meeting, Kraft told the The Boston Herald the team "won't be signing Britt, " the 25-year-old receiver who has nine police incidents on his rap sheet.

Still, Patriots front office people met with Britt this week in a meeting the former Titans star described as he initially described as going well.

After Hernandez's arrest last June on first-degree murder charges in the execution style killing of one-time associate Odin Lloyd, team owners had vowed the team would be more selective about the type of players the franchise elected to align itself with.

While at Florida, Hernandez had also raised red flags by being implicated in several on campus skirmishes. Currently, he also remains a suspect in a 2010 double-slaying in Boston that also remains unsolved.

Carlos Ortiz won't testify against Aaron Hernandez?

"I think maybe ownership has changed their ways, but I don't think the coaching staff has," said Boston radio personality Marc Bertrand. "They brought in this guy for a visit. So obviously they had an interest. I don't know if they wanted to sign him, but at the very least they wanted to take a look. If they really changed their ways why was this guy even here for a visit?"
