The Bristol County District Attorney who moved to bring formal murder charges against former NFL star Aaron Hernandez insisted on Monday he not only plans to seek reelection to his office, but will continue to prominently figure in the prosecution of the former New England Patriots star.

Sam Sutter told supporters he does not want to "walk away" and will seek a third-term. In making his announcement, Sutter cited such in-office successes as reducing gun violence, solving homicides and improving conviction rates.

Hernandez, meanwhile, remains jailed and held with bail on first-degree murder charges in the execution-style killing of one-time associate Odin Lloyd. Prosecutors have speculated Lloyd may have been killed because of his knowledge about other violent crimes Hernandez is alleged to have been involved in.

Hernandez, 24, is also a suspect in a 2012 double-slaying in downtown Boston that remains unsolved. A grand jury has been empaneled to weigh evidence in the probe and a decision is soon expected.
