Could the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles be pulling a quarterback swap? Just four days after Gang Green signed Michael Vick to a one-year $5 million contract, the Eagles are among teams interested in acquiring Mark Sanchez, who was released by the Jets on Friday.

According to ESPN, the Eagles are "likely" to sign Sanchez, who is rehabbing from a shoulder injury suffered in a Week 3 preseason game last year against the New York Giants. The team will have Sanchez undergo a medical evaluation before deciding whether or not to sign him.

The Jets and Eagles have been linked a lot this offseason, with Vick coming to New York to reunite with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and provide veteran presence behind second-year quarterback Geno Smith for the Jets.

Adding to the Eagles and Jets relationship this offseason is the fact that amongst rumors that the Eagles are looking to deal wide receiver DeSean Jackson, Jets owner Woody Johnson said the team would be interested in acquiring him. Despite the fact that it violates league rules for Johnson to discuss acquiring a player that's on another roster, it's unlikely the Eagles will take action to reprimand Johnson if they are, in fact, trying to rid themselves of Jackson.

If the Eagles do sign Sanchez, he'll join Nick Foles and Matt Barkley as the third player on the Eagles roster. Sanchez had an up-and-down time in New York over the last five years that started out bright but ended in mediocrity.

Sanchez started out strong as a rookie under first-year head coach Rex Ryan, ending their first season together with a trip to the AFC Championship Game. The team would replicate that feat in their second year together, but the good times would end there as two tumultuous seasons would follow --including the infamous Thanksgiving night "butt fumble" --leading to many Jets fans turning their backs on Sanchez.

Once John Idzik took over as general manager and drafted Smith, the writing was on the wall for Sanchez. After Smith won the quarterback "competition" last summer by default due to an injury to Sanchez, who actually outplayed the rookie, it was a foregone conclusion the Jets would cut Sanchez.

Now that Sanchez is free to sign anywhere, the Eagles remain a favorite to land the signal caller.

Sanchez has a career completion percentage of 55.1% while throwing for 12,092 yards with 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions while going 33-29. He led two come-from-behind victory drives in the postseason and amassed four playoff victories on the road.

Sanchez's time in New York will be remembered as inconsistent, but perhaps he'll get a fresh start in a new city, and perhaps that will be in Philadelphia with the Eagles.
