Contract uncertainties aside, Jim Harbaugh envisions Colin Kaepernick as his starting quarterback.

Harbaugh tells ProFootballTalk.com signing Kaepernick to an extension is a "high priority" for the franchise, adding "Colin Kaepernick is a San Francisco 49er for however long we can have him be a San Francisco 49er. It's definitely a high priority."

The 26-year-old Kaepernick is entering the final year of his rookie contract, which will pay him $1.073 million this season, or roughly half of the $2.011 million his backup Blaine Gabbert is slated to make this season.

"Amazing individual. Amazing player," Harbaugh said of Kaepernick. "He shows up and works all the time. There's really nobody to compete with him in a workout situation. He will bury everybody. And then when somebody tries to compete with him, he just ramps his competitiveness up and somebody's over there on a knee throwing up."

ProFootballTalk maintains Harbaugh remains intent on making certain Kaepernick is extended even as his own future with the franchise remains somewhat uncertain.

Like Kaepernick, the 46-year-old veteran coach is entering the final year of his current deal with the team.
