Spring training isn't just for the players, but for social media operators too. Whoever is in charge of running the official New York Mets Twitter handle made a flub on Monday during a spring training game and was forced to quickly apologize after making an accidental reference to the infamous Ku Klux Klan.
Twitter accounts that all fantasy baseball owners should follow
With the team taking on the St. Louis Cardinals in a spring training game just a week prior to Opening Day, fifth-starter hopeful Daisuke Matsuzaka was on the hill and struck out the side in the first inning. The Mets took to Twitter to share their excitement, but ended up apologizing for a poor choice of words.
"Dice-KKK off to a quick start. He strikes out the side in the 1st inning #NYMvsST," the team said in a tweet, which has since been deleted, on the New York Met's official Twitter handle.
Yankees looking to deal Ichiro Suzuki?
The team then quickly took action to apologize for the way the Tweet came off as the three K's were meant to illustrate Matsuzaka's three first inning strikeouts, not the infamous extremist group the Ku Klux Klan.
That was unintended. We're glad he struck out the side. #DiceK

The Mets will open up the season on March 31 at Citi Field against the Washington Nationals and try to build upon a 74-88 record and third place finish. The team hasn't made the playoffs since 2006 and hasn't had a winning record since 2008.
The 'Amazins weren't so amazing on Twitter on Monday, but hopefully by Opening Day they'll work all the kinks out and recognize a bad Tweet before its sent out to the Internet.
