After many failures, Creighton is eager to finally break through the barrier that's kept them from the Sweet 16. "We've knocked on the door and come so close the last few years to try to get into that Sweet 16 and see what happens after that," Creighton coach Greg McDermott said. "I couldn't think of a better way for their career to end than to go (farther) and have a chance to go to the Final Four."
This could be their best chance yet, with Doug McDermott playing some of the best basketball of any player in the nation. McDermott is the nation's top scorer, but he's also surrounded by senior players who all came through to thwart Louisiana-Lafayette's strong upset bid.
"All of a sudden, you have these pieces in place again for a fourth year together," Greg McDermott said. "There is a confidence about them. ... They believe in each other."
Baylor's road to the Big Dance was very rocky, as they overcame a 2-8 start in conference play. "No matter what we've been through this year, we feel like we're a good team and we're as good as any team in the country and can play with anybody," Bears forward Royce O'Neale said.
Still, Baylor coach Scott Drew seems resigned to another big performance from "McBuckets." "If we can just contest as many shots and make it as tough as we can so he can't get into a rhythm," Drew said. "There is a difference between 30 points and 45 points."
