Forget the chance to win the starting quarterback job, Michael Vick's decision on whether or not to join the New York Jets could hinge on his jersey number.

All through his NFL career and since his days in college, Vick has worn the No. 7, the same number now worn by Geno Smith, last season's rookie starting quarterback.

TMZ Sports now reports a big part of Vick's ongoing negotiations with Jets revolve around his demand to be able to wear the No. 7 in New York. The website adds the issue is a priority for the veteran Vick, no matter what team he ultimately signs with.

Part of Vick's apparent inflexibility also centers around his ownership of the V7 clothing line he also owns. The veteran quarterback's jersey has also recently been among the NFL's best sellers.

In all, Vick has played 10 NFL seasons, almost equally splitting time between Atlanta and Philadelphia. Vick has thrown for 20 or more touchdowns twice in his career, the last coming in 2011 with the Eagles.
